"I Lack it, I Like it" is an insightful series of interviews featuring womxn artists, curators, and writers conducted over a span of two years during the Covid pandemic lockdown.
The title is a deliberate nod to the controversial Freudian theory of penis envy, a concept where young girls grapple with anxiety upon realising the absence of a penis. However, "I lack it, I like it" transcends the confines of this theory, seeking to transform the negative connotations of 'lack' into a positive and assertive force. Through candid interviews with women, the series aims to showcase the coping mechanisms, strength, and resilience developed by these women in response to navigating a still predominantly phallocentric world.
By providing a platform for womxn to share their experiences, the project aims to illuminate the multifaceted ways in which they confront societal expectations, fostering a deeper understanding of the complexities inherent in the female experience.
"I Lack it, I Like it" stands as a testament to the power of dialogue, shedding light on the transformative journey from lack to empowerment within a post #MeToo movement context.
The questions are as follows:
Q1 – I lack it, I like it – How do you interpret the slogan?
Q2 – To expand on the concept of lack, have you suffered from lacks in your life and career as a woman? How have you managed to overcome, adapt or transform those lacks?
Q3 – Your worst lack?
Q4 – Your favourite lack?
